For the first time, a Scenic Rim Climate Change Roadmap 2024-2034 and 3-Year Action Plan have been developed in consultation with members of the Scenic Rim Community.

The community provided their feedback online via Let's Talk Scenic Rim and via a hard copy feedback form during the community consultation period between 25 September and 27 October 2023.

Questions in the survey focused on:

  • Respondents' opinions of Council's planned actions in the Summary of Actions in the Draft Scenic Rim Climate Change Roadmap 2024-2034 and the Draft Scenic Rim 3 Year Action Plan 2024-2026, aimed at building resilience to climate change impacts and reducing Council greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the region,
  • Which actions respondents would like Council to prioritise,
  • Respondents' suggestions for additional actions to build resilience to climate change impacts and reduce Council and community greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and
  • Overall opinions on the benefit to the region of the Roadmap and associated Action Plan.

Council appreciates all of the community input received during the consultation period, which has helped inform Council's long-term environmental sustainability objectives.

The results

Survey results indicated that the roadmap aligned with community priorities for managing the impacts of climate change with seventy per cent of respondents believing that Council should take an active role in climate response.

Overall, feedback from respondents focused on key environmental topics such as waste reduction and recycling efforts, catchment water resources, habitat restoration and conservation of remnant vegetation.

Rising temperatures were another concern, with some respondents suggesting that changes to building regulations could not only reduce energy demand to minimise greenhouse gas emissions but also to address 'heat island' effects in urban areas which may experience higher temperatures than outlying areas.

The adopted Scenic Rim Climate Change Roadmap 2024-2034 and the Scenic Rim 3 Year Action Plan 2024-2026 can be downloaded from the 'key documents' section of this page.

Council recognises the future impacts of climate change and is committed to meeting its responsibilities to respond to these challenges in the Scenic Rim region.

We encourage individuals, local community groups and organisations to share this information with their existing networks. If you would like to receive updates, outcomes and notifications for Council projects, please 'subscribe' to the project page on Let's Talk Scenic Rim.

By participating in this survey, you have helped Council embed climate change considerations into corporate decision-making and guide planning and response in mitigating and adapting to climate change.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

    CLOSED: Contributions to this consultation are now closed for evaluation and review

    Council recognises the future impacts of climate change and is committed to meeting its responsibilities and working with the community to respond to these challenges in the Scenic Rim region.

    In 2022, Council released its Statement of Intent to inform the community how the challenges of climate change intend to be addressed in the region.  The statement contained numerous themes that Council will work towards to assist our region to manage the impacts of climate change. The next step was to develop a strategic approach that supports and implements the objectives within these themes.

    In response to community feedback from the first phase of consultation on the Statement of Intent, Council has developed the Draft Scenic Rim Climate Change Roadmap 2024-2034 (Roadmap) and Draft Scenic Rim Climate Change 3 Year Action Plan 2024-2026 (Action Plan).

    The Roadmap will enable Council to embed climate change considerations into corporate decision-making and guide planning and response in mitigating and adapting to climate change.

    Community consultation allows the wider community an opportunity to be informed about how Council plans to address its organisational climate change impacts and support the community in responding to climate change. The consultation provides the opportunity to provide feedback on how Council will prioritise actions proposed in responding regionally to the global challenge.

    The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

    When you commence the survey, there will be questions about yourself (will not identify you).  This lets Council capture important demographic data from the Scenic Rim region.

    The questions in the survey focus on:

    • Your opinion of Council's planned actions in the Summary of Actions in the Draft Scenic Rim Climate Change Roadmap 2024-2034 (Roadmap) and the Draft Scenic Rim 3 Year Action Plan 2024-2026 (Action Plan) aimed at building resilience to climate change impacts and reducing Council greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the region;
    • Which actions you would like to see prioritised by Council;
    • How Council can advocate for broader climate change, and
    • Your suggestions for additional actions to build resilience to climate change impacts and reduce Council and community greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

    Survey submissions will be accepted by Council between 25 September and 27 October 2023.

    To access a copy of the full list of documents, visit Let's Talk Scenic Rim (https://letstalk.scenicrim.qld.gov.au), or you can visit one of Council's Administration or Customer Contact Centres and ask to view the document.

    Please email the completed feedback form to mail@scenicrim.qld.gov.au, post your form to PO Box 25, Beaudesert QLD 4285 or drop it off at one of Council's Administration or Customer Contact Centres.   Please mark your submission to attention 'Climate Change Team'.

    Once all feedback has been considered, the Draft Scenic Rim Climate Change Roadmap 2024-2034 and Draft Scenic Rim Climate Change 3 Year Action Plan 2024-2026 will be presented to Council for adoption later this year.
