Project Overview

As part of Council's commitment to developing vibrant towns and villages and supporting our Playground Strategy, Council has committed to upgrading the Rathdowney Memorial Park.

The playground design will reflect the history of this quiet, yet well visited park. The park's proximity to the Rathdowney State Primary School is included in considerations while developing this play space, catering for various age groups using the park before and after school pickups and drop-offs. Collaboration and discussion with Council’s access and disabilities consultants will also ensure the design truly meets the various needs of members of the community.

Project Completed November 2022

We are pleased to share the Rathdowney Memorial Park's play space has been constructed! The official opening of the playground was held in late November 2022, joined by Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen and Division 5 Councillor Marshall Chalk and Rathdowney State School students.

The upgrade of the existing playground also includes a new rope crawl tube bridge, a ground-to-deck rope climbing net, a rope transition bridge and as well as a quad leap, cargo net and spider web and a new multi-level interactive tower with a four-metre tube slide.

The new facilities will be greatly appreciated by local families and visitors, encouraging socialising with creative play and recreation. The playground will also offer a welcoming break for travelers exploring and enjoying the many attractions of this region.

The new Memorial Park play space gets top marks from Rathdowney State School students.
